GS1-128 Bar Code Symbology

GS1-128 is a linear (1D) type bar code that is a subset of the Code 128 symbology. GS1-128 encodes all GS1 Application Identifier Element Strings. It has a variable length with a capacity of up to 74 characters. It has a binary-based encoding scheme optimized for Application Identifiers. Special compaction methods have been designed to decrease the symbol size for common element strings such as batch/lot number, variable weight and “best before” date.
